(WWJ) — Two of the three Nigerian men accused in the “sextortion case” that led Upper Peninsula teen Jordan DeMay to commit suicide have not only been extradited, they've now pleaded guilty to charges that could send them to prison for decades.

On a new Daily J podcast, WWJ's Zach Clark provides an update on the case and digs into what's driving a spike in 'sextortion'.

Federal authorities on Wednesday announced that Samuel Ogoshi, 22, and Samson Ogoshi, 20, of Lagos, Nigeria, each pleaded guilty to conspiring to sexually exploit teenage boys in the Western District of Michigan and across the United States.

Among their victims was DeMay, the 17-year-old Marquette boy who took his own life in March 2022. Authorities say the Ogoshis posed as young women online and struck up a conversation with DeMay.

They enticed him to send a compromising photo of himself, then blackmailed him for money. From him, officials said, the blackmailers demanded $1,000. After DeMay paid them $300, he was faced with more threats.

Eventually, he told the blackmailers he was going killing himself because of them. According to the indictment, the blackmailers replied: "Good. Do that fast, or I'll make you do it. I swear to God."

On Thursday’s Daily J, Clark learned sextortion has been on the rise in recent years, as scammers continue to look for new, dark ways to make money.

More information on the case can be found on the U.S. Attorney of the Western District of Michigan website. More FBI sexual extortion resources are available here.
