TROY (WWJ)-- There was no shooting at the Somerset Collection in Troy on Friday, according to police.
The Troy Police Department wants the public to know that rumors on social media about an "active shooter" incident at the mall, on W. Big Beaver Road, Friday morning were false.
As for what promoted the erroneous reports, not much information is known at this time.
Troy Police said officers did respond to initial reports of a possible shooter, but determined that there was no shooting, and in fact that no crime had occurred at at the mall.
This all came as Somerset was packed with last-minute holiday shoppers.
Police said there was never any danger to the public.
