No charges will be filed against Shelby Township Police officers who shot knife-wielding man at apartment complex

SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) -- There will be no charges filed against a group of Shelby Township police officers who were involved in a shooting earlier this month.

On January 9, the officers were called to the Shelby Oaks Apartments on Utica Green W, near Utica and Mound roads in Shelby Twp., on a report that a man had stabbed his mother multiple times and ran from the scene.

When officers found and confronted the suspect, 30-year-old Miles Farish, they said he refused their commands to comply and charged at them with a knife. "He also demanded officers come get him and kill him," according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, which was called in to investigate this case.

When a taser didn't stop Farish, multiple officers opened fire, critically wounding the man.

In a release issued Wednesday, the sheriff's office said the Shelby Twp. officers' use of force was found to be consistent with training, and with the law.

Farish was taken to Troy Beaumont Hospital where his status was recently upgraded from critical to stable condition, officials said.

No police officers were injured.
