NORTHVILLE (WWJ) The Northville Township Department of Public Safety is urging residents to stay vigilant among an increase of crimes against upscale homes across metro Detroit, believed to be tied to an organized crime group from South America.
In a press release, police they have responded to five home invasions in Northville Township in the past year that have “exhibited striking similarities to this crime group.” Police said the group’s pattern starts with parking a car on nearby side street, then breaking into the home. They often work in groups of three or four.
They’ve stolen cash, jewelry and other “high-end possessions,” police said.
“We are deeply concerned about the recent uptick in what appears to be organized crime activities targeting our neighborhoods,” Deputy Chief of Police Matthew MacKenzie said in the release. “We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately to law enforcement.”
Northville Police said residents should take “proactive measures” to prevent break-ins, including: locking all doors and windows, turning on lights when not home, avoiding posting on social media about your vacation while you’re still out of town, and “promptly reporting suspicious activities or individuals.”
Northville Police are working with police departments throughout Metro Detroit to arrest the criminals, they said.
If you have any information on the home invasions, please call the Northville Police Department at (248) 349-9400.
“Our residents are the eyes and ears of the community,” the press release concluded, “If you see something, say something.”
