Numerous tips from the public lead to arrest of man caught on camera in Northern Michigan home invasion: MSP

MESICK, Mich. (WWJ) -- Information from the public has led to the arrest of a "habitual offender" in connection with a home break-in in Northern Michigan.

Michigan State Police back in January asked for help from the public to identify locate a suspect caught on camera at the scene of a home invasion in Mesick, a village located northwest of Cadillac.


On the night of Friday, Jan. 20, MSP troopers responded to a call from the homeowner who said they returned home that evening and found signs of forced entry.

The owner provided troopers with pictures from a trail camera facing the driveway, showing an unknown man walking around the home back on Jan. 5.

Releasing those photos to the public, MSP said the man was considered a possible "person of interest" in the break-in.

He was described as a taller white male with facial hair, who at the time was wearing a ballcap, blue zip-up jacket with a red collar, jeans and black athletic shoes.

The vehicle he arrived in, which was parked in the driveway of the victim's property, is a blue, newer-model Ford Escape, police said.

In an update issued Tuesday, police said the MSP Cadillac Post "received numerous tips from the public" after news outlets shared this story.

The tips and investigation led to the arrest of 46-year-old John Emil Miesiaczek from Stanwood, which is also a village in Mecosta County.

Miesiaczek was arraigned in the 84th District Court in Wexford County on one count Home Invasion Second Degree and Habitual Offender Fourth Offense Notice. His bond was set at $50,000 and his next court date was set for April 11.
