HOLLY (WWJ) -- An Oakland County man accused of pointing a rifle at people inside a bar and getting into a standoff with police over the weekend has been charged.

At around 11 p.m. Saturday, Holly Police Officers responded to the Holly Inn, at 902 N. Saginaw, after receiving a call about a man who was standing at the window outside the bar pointing an AR-15 style rife at people inside, evoking panic, said authorities.

Officers were informed that it may involve a woman who was inside of the bar.

Upon arrival at the scene, police said they discovered that the suspect, 39-year-old Joshua Robert Allegeyer, had already been taken to his home on Clarence Street by a taxi service provided by the Holly Inn.

No shots were fired at the bar and no one at the bar was injured, said officials.

It has since been determined that the driver was unaware of the preceding incident, and that he arrived at the bar to see Allegeyer -- who he considers an acquaintance -- upset in the parking lot and offered to drive him home.

The taxi driver told police that he was alarmed when he noticed Allegeyer enter his car with a rifle, so he notified authorities as soon as he dropped the suspect off.

Police said that several patrons familiar with Allegeyer were able to provide Holly officers with his identity. They were then able to head to the suspect's home where they observed him looking out a window next to an unknown older female.

The officers requested assistance from the Michigan State Police as they secured the perimeter of the home. As police made several attempts to convince the man to leave the home, he refused and remained looking out the window, said authorities.

Holly officers then requested assistance from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Swat Team, who arrived and began communication attempts with the home’s occupants. After several attempts, deputies were notified that the female inside called the OCSO dispatch center and stated they would exit the home.

At 2:41 a.m., the suspect exited the home without a firearm, surrendered without incident and taken into custody, said police.

Officers then conducted a search warrant of the suspect's home, where they found a loaded AR-15 pistol with five loaded thirty-round magazines and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition -- that was near the area where the suspect was looking out the window.

Authorities said the female family member at the home was not involved and was questioned and released.

Allegeyer, lodged in the Oakland County Jail, was arraigned in Clarkston Tuesday on two counts of felonious assault, three counts of possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, one count each of carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.

He remains jailed on an $80,000.00 or 10% bond.

Officials said that Allegeyer was previously convicted of armed robbery and home invasion in 2004 in Wayne County and was released from parole oversight in December 2020.

Allegeyer’s next scheduled court appearance is on April 11 for a probable cause conference.
