GRAND HAVEN (WWJ) -- An Oakland County man was one of four people rescued from Lake Michigan on Memorial Day.

At approximately 3:55 p.m., two 17-year-old girls from Grand Rapids who were swimming in the lake at Grand Haven State Park started calling out for help, said officials.

Grand Haven police, DNR Park Rangers, Ottawa County Marine Patrol boats, North Ottawa Community Hospital Paramedics and a boat from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Grand Haven responded.

At the same time, beach-goers formed a human chain.

The Grand Haven Public Safety Department says the people in the chain were able to get to one of the swimmers with a life ring; however, two people in the chain began struggling and needed help.

A 29-year-old man from Grand Rapids, a 42-year-old man from Oakland County and the second swimmer all had to be rescued by Ottawa County Sheriff's Department deputies.

There were minor injuries and one person was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Everyone is expected to be okay.
