(WWJ) — Monday marked four years since the World Health Organization officially declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.
A day after Michigan confirmed its first cases of the coronavirus and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency, the world began “shutting down” on March 11, 2020, following the WHO’s declaration. That included the cancellation of sports events — including the Big Ten Tournament — and eventually stay-at-home orders and the closure of businesses across the state and country.
While that may seem like a long time ago, Michiganders are still feeling the effects. On a new Daily J podcast, WWJ’s Zach Clark takes a look back at the day the world came to a halt and looks at the most consequential effects.
