1 killed, 1 injured after SUV slams into pole in West Bloomfield

WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) – One person is dead and another is injured after an SUV struck a pole in West Bloomfield Saturday night.

West Bloomfield police officials tell WWJ a black 2022 Chevy Trailblazer was headed east on Maple Road when it hit a pole near Halsted shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday.


A 70-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities say the driver in that crash is also hospitalized. Their condition was not disclosed.

Officials have not released any details about the driver.

Police officials say they're still investigating what led to the crash. It was not clear whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

The crash left Halsted closed in the area for about five hours overnight.

The incident in West Bloomfield was one of two deadly crashes in Metro Detroit on Saturday.

Authorities say a motorcyclist was killed after crashed into an SUV around 8 p.m. near Michigan Avenue and Greenfield in Dearborn.

Police officials have not released many details about that crash, including the victim's name or age, or what caused the collision.

Saturday morning, meanwhile, a 28-year-old bicyclist was killed when he was struck by an SUV in Canton.
