DETROIT (WWJ) A four-vehicle crash on Detroit's east side killed one person, police said.

Michigan State Police (MSP) said the crash occurred on Saturday, July 18, at 10:54 p.m., on the westbound side of I-94 near Brush Street.

According to MSP, their preliminary investigation indicated "multiple vehicles" were speeding, leading to a "chain-reaction collision." First responders pronounced one person dead at the scene.

MSP did not release any details about the victim, or about the conditions of any of the other people involved.

"This serves as another tragic reminder of the dangers of excessive speed. Speeding significantly reduces your ability to react and increases the severity of crashes," MSP said in a statement. "Slow down, stay focused, and help keep Michigan’s roadways safe."

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
