(WWJ) Multiple communities across Oakland County are being hit by criminals coming from outside of Michigan, authorities say.
Out with a warning on Wednesday, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard confirmed that there's been a string of "high-end" burglaries that appear to be targeted, and are being committed by out-of-state people.
“Know that many, many agencies are working on this and a lot of resources are being poured into this,” Bouchard said, in post to the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Bouchard said residents can take steps to keep themselves safe.
“Things you should do is be more aware of your surroundings, be aware of what’s happening in your neighborhood, make sure if you have an alarm, you set your alarm, lock your doors, lock your windows, lock your cars.”
The sheriff said neighborhoods should also keep an eye out for suspicious activity, people or vehicles.
Reports should be made to your local police department.
“You're more likely to know a car that belongs or doesn't belong than us even if we're doing extra patrol in a lot of these neighborhoods across the county,” Bouchard said.
The sheriff did not talk about what, specifically, has been stolen.
"It is not one neighborhood or even one community," Bouchard stressed, in a Facebook post. "The common thread is the target. Very high-end homes with the likelihood of having high value items inside. Some have been inside of gated communities and some have not. And, they are scattered across the county."
No suspects have been named or described, as the investigation continues.
Those with information about these crimes can call the OCSO at 248-858-4950. Or, in an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
