(WWJ) Michigan businessman and Republican presidential candidate Perry Johnson says he has qualified for the first GOP debate, set to take place next Wednesday.

Johnson, of Bloomfield Hills, has apparently met the requirements based on polls released today, showing him polling at 1%.

In addition to the polling requirement, Johnson also received campaign donations from at least 40,000 individual donors, according to his camp.

Another requirement: Perry has agreed to support the party's eventual nominee; something that former President Donald Trump has said he will not promise to do.

"There has been a flood of polling in the last 72 hours that meet the RNC's requirements and qualify me for the debate stage," Johnson said, in a statement issued Friday. "Therefore I will be at the debate in Milwaukee and looking forward to sharing my Two Cents Plan to Save America which will balance the budget and secure the border."

Johnson is the ninth GOP candidate who has qualified for the debate.

The other eight, according to Politico, are Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, former Vice President Mike Pence, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, and Trump.

Trump, who has been the leading GOP candidate in all polls, has said he will skip the debate. Instead, Trump has said he will sit for an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, according to The New York Times.
