DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit Police confirm that a person of interest is now in custody in connection with three bodies found inside a burned out car over the weekend.

Detroit fire crews discovered the bodies after extinguishing a car fire on the city's west side, according to police.

Detroit Police said the Fire Department (DFD) received a call of a vehicle fire at Milford and 30th, in the area of W. Grand Boulevard and I-94, at 5:53 a.m. on Sunday, April 6.

According to DFD, the original caller reported "power lines down" and a "possible transformer fire." However, upon arrival, crews found flames enveloping the car.

Police said, once DFD crews put out the fire, they found "three unidentified bodies" inside the vehicle.

In a social media post, a woman claimed that the three bodies in the car were that of her daughter, her sister, and her mother — but this hasn't been confirmed by authorities.

Police are not releasing any information about the victims at this time.

The Detroit Police Major Crimes Unit is asking anyone in the community who may have information to come forward by calling 1-800-SpeakUp.
