DETROIT (WWJ) -- A person of interest in connection with the murder of a Detroit neurosurgeon in his historic mansion has been released from police custody.
Detroit Police confirmed to WWJ Newsradio 950 on Tuesday that the unnamed person, who was arrested on an unrelated, outstanding warrant, has been discharged from custody.
Police added that homicide personnel will continue to investigate and follow up on any leads in the case of Dr. Devon Hoover, who was found dead inside his Boston-Edison home back on April 23.
The 53-year-old doctor's body was wrapped in a sheet in the attic, investigators said, and an autopsy found he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his head.
It's unclear at this time how the now-free person of interest was linked by investigators to the death of Dr. Devon Hoover.
Authorities have not discussed a possible motive for the killing, but Detroit Police Chief James White said investigators do believe that the doctor knew his killer, and that this was not the result of a home break-in or a random act.
Hoover worked at St. John Hospital in Detroit.
