DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit business is hoping the community recognizes the people who broke into their store, taking thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
Pingree Detroit, which makes handcrafted footwear, accessories and pet goods out of auto leather, said they were broken into around 3 a.m. on Saturday.
According to a statement from the company, “they stole $5000 worth of product, all the Pingree Laptops, $500 in cash Signed Jerseys from the Pistons which were given to Pingree Detroit to the Veterans on Hoops for Troops Evening.”
Jarret Schlaff, owner of Pingree Detroit, released a video and several photos showing the suspects.
In the video, two people are shown, including one that appears to be holding something. The person with the object in their hands kneels down in front of what appears to be a safe, and uses the object to help open it. They then pull things out and sift through them. Both suspects continue to move throughout the room grabbing items.
One of them holds up a basketball jersey, which is put on a chair. The camera is bumped towards the end of the video, pointing it toward a wall. The two spent almost 20 minutes in sight of the camera.
One of the suspects has their face covered by a mask, while the other one is a man with a beard. The man with the beard was carrying a backpack, and was wearing a checkered jacket. The other suspect had a dark coat on with a lighter sweatshirt underneath. They also had a dark mask on.

The statement said insurance won’t cover the losses because “as a non-profit Veteran owned and operated business they can only afford general liability.”
Anyone with information about the two people shown in the video are asked to contact Detroit Police at 313-596-2200 or Crime Stoppers. The phone number is 1-800-SPEAKUP (1-800-773-2587). Tips can also be submitted through the link here. Tips made through Crime Stoppers are completely anonymous.
