DETROIT (WWJ) - A plumber snaking a drain in a flooded basement was electrocuted when he came into contact with an electrical supply on Detroit's west side, authorities said on Tuesday evening.

As reported by WDIV, fire and police officials said the 62-year-old plumber died as he worked in the basement of an apartment complex in the evening hours of Feb, 7 on LaSalle and Webb streets in Detroit.

According to fire crews, water began pouring in to the lower level, trapping the plumber as he snaked a drain and he came into contact with the building's electrical supply.

Emergency crews arrived on scene, but were unable to reach the man due to the basement being flooded with three to four feet of charged water.

Roughly 40 minutes after the first call, WDIV reported that DTE crews showed up to cut the power and EMS personnel were able to remove the man from the complex.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

DTE workers remained on scene to help officials determined what exactly happened. No other details were released as of Tuesday morning.
