
PLYMOUTH (WWJ) -- One person has been taken into custody after a standoff with police in Plymouth, according to WWJ Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett.
Officials said that earlier on Friday, police were telling people to not go near Farmer and Karmada streets due to a situation which involved a man with a gun.
Circumstances surrounding how the situation unfolded are expected to be released this afternoon.
Because of the officers in the area, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools were prompted to shelter in place, including Bird Elementary School, East Middle School and West Middle School, ClickOnDetroit.com reports.
District officials reminded the public that this wasn't a lockdown, and students continued to learn in their classrooms.
Plymouth City Manager Paul Sincock confirmed to WWJ Newsradio 950 that there was an active police situation in the area since 11 a.m., but did not providing additional details at the time.
Sincock advised drivers to avoid using Farmer and Junction near the Plymouth Cultural Center.
