Police: 2-year-old shot in the face with BB gun on Detroit's east side, father in custody

A young boy is in temporary serious condition after he was struck in the mouth with a projectile from a high-powered airsoft gun.

WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - A young boy from Detroit is in temporary serious condition after he was struck in the mouth with a projectile from a high-powered airsoft gun on Friday afternoon.

According to WDIV, Detroit police said the shooting occurred around 3 p.m. on Friday near Outer Driver and Mack Ave.

The boy's father told authorities that a BB gun that was kept on top of a cabinet had fallen; it hit the ground and accidentally discharged.

A BB pellet struck his young son in the mouth, knocking out two teeth.

The boy is currently hospitalized at Detroit Children’s Hospital and is expected to recover, authorities said.

The boy's father was arrested by police for possible child neglect.
