DETROIT (WWJ) -- A young Detroit girl is in stable condition after she was accidentally shot in her home late Sunday night.
Detroit police say around 11:15 p.m. Sunday a 32-year-old woman was unloading her gun in a home in the 10000 block of Whittier Street on the city's east side when it accidentally discharged, per a preliminary investigation.
Police say the round was fired into the floor, which resulted in bullet fragments striking a 9-year-old girl.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Police say the firearm was recovered at the scene.
