MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) A barricaded gunman situation in Madison Heights has come to a peaceful end, according to police.

Madison Heights Police said they received a 911 call about a man allegedly pointing a handgun at multiple people in the area of the apartment complex at 330 E. 13 Mile Road, in the area of John R. The call came in on Saturday, May 31, around 12:23 p.m.

Officers arrived at scene and learned the man-- identified as a 34-year-old from Madison Heights- had "retreated into his apartment with the handgun", police said.

"Due to the dangerous nature of the call, officers held a perimeter and did not immediately enter the apartment," Madison Heights Police said in a press release.

According to police, he had "little" contact with his family and officers were not able to reach him.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office activated the SWAT team. After police obtained a search warrant, SWAT entered the apartment and "safely" found the man.

He was arrested and taken to the Madison Heights Police Department. Police said they will submit a warrant request to the Oakland County Prosecutor's office to determine charges.

13 Mile between John R and Dequindre was closed for the investigation, but it has since reopened.

Police thanked the sheriff's office for helping them "resolve the situation peacefully."
