YPSILANTI (WWJ) - A Washtenaw County woman with dementia and other medical conditions has been found dead.
Betty Reed, 78, who had last been seen around noon on Sunday at her home in Ypsilanti, was found Tuesday afternoon off US-23 near Carpenter in the Milan area, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said her dog Cali was still by her side as deputies arrived. The dog has been reunited with family members, the sheriff's office said.
Officials did not give any details surrounding Reed's cause of death.
According to Reed's granddaughter, Taliesha Darby, Reed loaded her black-and-white Pitbull-type dog, into a red 2019 Ford Expedition with the license plate MI JG58G and took off on Sunday and she had not been seen since.
She had not been seen or heard from since.
"We ask that you please keep Mrs. Reed and her family in your thoughts and prayers," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook update. "We would also like to thank all of those who helped in the search and who offered tips that ultimately assisted us in locating Mrs. Reed.
