(WWJ) East Lansing Police have identified a body found in the Red Cedar River, near the Michigan State University Campus.

In an update shared Wednesday evening, police said the person found dead in the river is Meagan Turner, a 32-year-old woman from Canada.

Turner was a doctoral candidate studying at MSU. Her family has been notified, police said.

Turner's body was spotted and pulled from the Red Cedar, just east of the Cedar Village apartments, on Monday, Oct. 13.

It's still not clear how Turner ended up in the river, but police said investigators do not have reason to believe that foul play was involved.

The Ingham County Medical Examiner’s Office is testing for drugs and alcohol, but police said it may take two to four weeks for toxicology results.

“ELPD will continue to investigate all options and leads in this case, but we do not have reason at this point to believe there is an ongoing risk to public safety,” said ELPD Police Chief Jen Brown, in a statement.

No further information was released.
