A missing San Francisco teenager is believed to be traveling with a 16-year-old runaway boy from Michigan, police said Thursday.
Katlin Gallaread was last seen the night of February 16 at her family’s home in the city’s Northern District. She left without letting her family know, reportedly making big withdrawals from her bank account twice in the following days.
Police said Thursday she’s thought to be traveling with a missing boy, identified as Tyler Sexton of Monroe, Michigan, either by bus or train. It was not immediately clear how the two are connected or why they're together.
The pair's last known location was the Sacramento area, police said.
Katlin's father, Jason Gallaread, told the San Francisco Chronicle his daughter left a note at home saying she was depressed because of social isolation caused by the coronavirus pandemic. "COVID is like prison for children," he told the paper. "She’s in the house all the time, not being able to be around her friends anymore."
When he woke up the morning of February 17, she was supposed to be up and getting ready for distance learning at Wallenberg High School. He said he frantically searched the house, but was unable to find his daughter, who wrote in the note that "she was running away to solve her problems."
Katlin has been unreachable since.
Police said she's not believed to be a victim of human trafficking.
Police said she has no known medical conditions, but could be suffering from PTSD. She’s described as a Black female, 5’1" tall and 90 pounds.
Sexton is a white male, 5’6” tall and 155 pounds.
