SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - There is a heavy police presence on M-10 in Oakland County Wednesday morning as officials investigate the mysterious disappearance of the occupants of a vehicle involved in a serious traffic crash.
WWJ's Mike Campbell was live at the scene on the Lodge Freeway near Lahser in Southfield early Wednesday where police and fire officials are combing the area in an attempt to find the driver and possible passengers of a smashed SUV stopped on the left shoulder.
"We have a Land Rover Discovery up against the median wall facing north in the southbound lanes, badly damaged and may have been in rollovers, that's what we're hearing -- maybe even multiple rollovers ," Campbell reported. "And oddly enough, firefighters are standing around. You think they'd be extracting somebody -- there's nobody to extract."
Campbell said the vehicle was empty and officials are now attempting to find the occupants of the SUV, who are believed to have been ejected in the crash.
Police employed K9 units that could be seen walking the right shoulder and up to the Lasher exit in an effort to find evidence. Campbell said state police have closed all, but the right lane on the freeway for commuters as officials continue to investigate the scene.
"The search is on," Campbell added.
No other details were made available. More information about the incident is expected to be released by officials at a later time.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
