DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are investigating after a man was found dead Tuesday morning, along eastbound I-96 in Detroit.
The body of the victim, who has since been identified as a 59-year-old from Fruitland Park, Florida — was discovered on the shoulder of the local lanes of the freeway, near Shafer, at around 6:20 a.m.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reports the man's personal effects, including his cell phone and wallet, were left scattered following the crash.
Police said evidence at the scene shows the man was on foot when he was hit by an unknown driver, who then fled the scene.

MSP is not yet releasing the man's name, as troopers work to notify his family.
Eastbound I-96 Local was closed for hours for the on-scene investigation, but all lanes have since reopened.
