DETROIT (WWJ) -- Investigators are searching for a gunman who opened fire on police officers from a moving vehicle in Detroit.
The Detroit Police Department on Wednesday released a security camera image of the car that detectives are looking for in connection with the shooting a week ago, on the city's west side.
On Wednesday, March 8, at around 4:45 p.m., police said officers were working a traffic stop in the 8900 block of W. McNichols, east of Wyoming, when a red Nissan Rogue approached.
As the car drove by, officers said they saw the driver had a gun in his hand.
As the car turned north onto Kentucky from W. McNichols, shots were fired at the officers, police said.
The suspect then fled the scene.
No injuries were reported.
Police do not have a description of the driver himself, but did not that at the time of the shooting the vehicle had an improper Michigan plate #ESP-0700 on it.
"The officers showed incredible courage and great restraint," said Chief James White, in a statement. "This is another example of how Detroit Police officers put their lives on the line every day to protect the community."
As the investigation continues, anyone who recognizes the vehicle, or has any information about this incident is asked to call 313-596-2260. To remain 100% anonymous, call the Crime Stoppers line at 1-800-SPEAK UP (800-773-2587), or submit an anonymous tip online at this link.
