Michigan State Police are hoping someone saw something that can help them catch a freeway shooter that killed a metro Detroit man over the holiday weekend.
The victim, a 25-year-old Novi resident, was discovered by Detroit Police officers at around 3 p.m. behind the wheel of a car that was riddled with bullets along eastbound I-96 in Detroit on Labor Day.
He was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said detectives investigated at the scene, near Greenfield Rd.
However, no one is in custody yet, and there are no suspects.
"We spoke to a few witnesses out there that described what they had seen, which makes us believe that this was more of a targeted evert and nothing random; no road rage, nothing like that," Shaw said.
Although a motive for the killing is not yet known, Shaw said police believe: "Somebody was looking for our victim."
The man's name is still being withheld at this time, as the investigation continues.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting, or who has any information that could help investigators with this case is asked to call the MSP Metro South Post at 734-287-5000. The public can also send in tips anonymously through the Michigan State Police app, which is available for free through the App Store or Google Play.
