HARPER WOODS (WWJ) - Authorities are warning the public to keep an eye out for a suspicious vehicle after they became aware of two incidents in Wayne and St. Clair Counties where young children were approached.
Officers in Harper Woods said they became aware of the possible 'stranger danger' cases after the father of two young children contacted police on Sunday, June 5.
According to police, the man said his 7 and 4-year-old were asked by strangers in a white SUV if they "wanted some candy" as it slowly drove past their home this weekend in the area of Hollywood and Harper.
The man said to police that his children refused and the SUV took off.
The vehicle was occupied by an African American female and two males, police said.
Later on, the father read of a similar incident on a Facebook post from a parent in St. Clair Shores who wrote that their 5-year-old daughter was approached by a white Jeep Cherokee near Harper, north of 8 Mile.
The post said the young girl was also asked if she wanted candy. When she said no, the vehicle left.
"Please remind your young children not to interact with strangers," the Harper Woods Police Department warned.
Authorities said suspicious activity can be reported to the department at 313-343-2530.
