WWJ's Charlie Langton was on the scene of a barricaded gunman on Duchess Street on Detroit's east side when the man emerged and police wrestled him to the ground.
Langton said the man had fired shots at officers while he was barricaded near Moross and Kelly Street for more than an hour after a domestic situation.
"Not exactly sure why he was in there or why police wanted him," Langton reported. Police later revealed the man, in his 20s, had been holding his girlfriend, who managed to escape.
Police told Langton the girlfriend called police saying she was the victim of domestic violence and when officers arrived the suspect was outside with a handgun. He started firing, then retreated into the house.
Tactical officers arrived and managed to convince the man to come outside. Langton said he had a gun when he emerged and officers who had been talking to him managed to wrestle him to the ground.
"Could have been bad, doesn't look like anybody was hurt," Langton said.
