(WWJ) -- The COVID-19 pandemic has made people re-evaluate they way they want to live their lives moving forward.
That’s according to the results of a new Gallup poll, which shows that many are swapping out any desire for a ‘life in the fast lane’ in favor of a more serene existence.
Dr. Deanna Lites reports that the poll was part of a recent study for the Wellbeing for Planet Earth (WPE) Foundation, and asked people from 116 countries if they would rather live a "calm life" or an "exciting life."
An overwhelming majority — 72% to be exact — said they would prefer a calm life, while 16% chose an exciting life.
Meanwhile, another 10% wanted some variety, and opted for both.
Geographically, the poll also found that East Asia topped the list of countries that preferred to live a calm lifestyle, followed by Latin America, the Middle East/North Africa, and then United States and Canada.

“Last year was unusually stressful for most of the global population, as the COVID-19 pandemic jeopardized public health and created economic turmoil worldwide,” Gallup writes of the results. “These extraordinary circumstances may have made living a calm life a more appealing prospect for many people than it would be otherwise, especially given the ambiguous or complicated good represented by excitement.”
