OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - A 29-year-old man with several outstanding arrest warrants was taken into custody on Wednesday after crashed his Ford Bronco during a police chase.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the suspect fled from police not once, but multiple times during the day after the Farmington Hills Police Department issued a 'Be on the Lookout' to other law enforcement agencies.
Law enforcement in Farmington Hills stated the man was headed to Pontiac and "had outstanding arrest warrants issued in February from Oakland County Circuit Court for violation of probation from aggravated assault and fleeing and eluding convictions."
Deputies found the suspect driving a 2021 Ford Bronco and pursued him several times, but they were forced to call off the chase when they discovered the man had his 6-year-old child in the vehicle.
At some point during the morning hours, the sheriff's office stated the man dropped the child off, but he still continued to flee from deputies.
Just before noon on Wednesday, the suspect approached the intersection of Elizabeth Lake Road and Johnson Road in Pontiac with deputies tailing him when he crashed into a 2017 Nissan Altima driven by a 64-year-old woman who was stopped at a red light.
"The man and the other driver were taken to the hospital where they were both listed in stable condition today," deputies said in a release. "It was not known if either driver was wearing a seat belt."
Oakland County Sheriff said they are seeking additional charges stemming from the police chase and subsequent crash.
“This individual routinely puts individuals and other drivers at serious physical risk of harm,” Bouchard said. “We will seek to hold him fully accountable for what has been repetitive dangerous behavior.”
Deputies said the collision is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
