(WWJ) A young Pontiac man is being held without bond on charges that he murdered two people on the Fourth of July.
Dazon Louis Mathis, 21, was arraigned by 50th District Judge Michael Martinez in Pontiac on two counts each of open murder and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Mathis is accused of fatally shooting 30-year-old Christopher Cintron-Mateo and 29-year-old Jonathon Alvarado-Santiago just before 1 p.m. outside a home in the 500 block of Valencia Dr., off Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. near University in Pontiac.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responding to a report of multiple gun shots fired found the victims, both Pontiac residents, lying in the street. The gun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.
Sheriff's investigators believe the shooting was the result of an "altercation" between the victims and Mathis. Authorities have not said how the men knew each other or what they were fighting about.
Mathis was remanded into custody in the Oakland County Jail after his arraignment Wednesday. He will be back in court for a probable cause conference set for July 15.
