ROYAL OAK (WWJ) A Pontiac man died when an Amtrak passenger train struck him in Royal Oak, police said.
Royal Oak Police said their officers and paramedics rushed to the area of Sixth and Center Street on Saturday (10/12) around 9:17 a.m. in response to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck by a train.
According to police; investigation determined the man, 44, ignored the crossing signals and "was attempting to hurry across the tracks as the train approached."
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors.
First responders rushed the man to Corewell Health/William Beaumont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police did not release his name.
Royal Oak Police and CN Railroad Police are investigating the case.
