PORT HURON (WWJ) A Port Huron Twp. man is behind bars, charged with killing his girlfriend by setting a fire at her home.
Dustin Tucker, 27, has been arraigned on charges of Open Murder, Arson 2nd Degree and Unlawful Imprisonment in the death of Danielle Smith, 28, of Port Huron.
Police say the officers were called to the scene on Division Street near Oak and 16th on Saturday morning, where they found smoke streaming from Smith's home and her "charred body" inside.
Around 10 p.m. that evening, Port Huron police arrested Tucker at his home on Hopps St. near Michigan and Lapeer Rd.
Tucker was dating Smith, according to police. A motive for the grisly killing remains unknown.
The Times Herald reported Smith was a mother who leaves behind a "heartbroken young child," Smith's sister told the newspaper.
Tucker's bond has been denied. He is due back in court on June 15.
