Port Huron woman killed in house fire; police suspect murder

PORT HURON (WWJ)—A Port Huron woman's body was discovered in a burning home. Police believe it's murder.

Port Huron Police say they received a call to a home on Division Street (1800 block), in the area of 16th and Oak, Saturday morning for smoke coming out of the house and a charred body inside.


The body belonged to the woman, 35, who owned the home, according to police. She was turned over to the St. Clair County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Around 10:40 p.m. the same day, Port Huron Police conducted a search on a home on Hopps (2400 block), in the area of Lapeer and Michigan, in Port Huron Township.

The home belonged to a man, 27, who was dating the victim, police said.

The man was taken into custody and questioned. He is currently in jail on the charge of murder.

The victim's name will be released following the autopsy.
