GROSSE ILE (WWJ) — Grosse Ile Police are continuing to investigate after a possible bomb threat forced the school into lockdown on Wednesday afternoon.
Police were called to the school around noon on March 5 after a student and a staff member alerted the office that a wireless access point or hotspot identifier was displaying the message “I Have a Bomb.”
School administrators immediately initiated shelter-in-place protocols while police responded to the scene.
The Groose Ile Police Department, Michigan State Police, US Border Patrol and Wayne County Airport Authority all responded to the school and conducted “a thorough search” of the school building and surrounding areas.
Police officials said “all necessary safety measures were taken to protect students, staff, and the community.”
After a comprehensive search, no credible threat was found, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted.
Students and staff were released from the school for the day at around 1:15 p.m.
Authorities did not say if the person responsible for the name of the wireless hotspot was identified.
Officials are asking anyone who knows something about the incident to call the Grosse Ile Police Department at (734) 676-7100.
