PONTIAC (WWJ) -- A prayer service has been announced by the family of Dina May Terrell, an Eastpointe woman who was murdered by a customer while working as Lyft driver.
The prayer service is scheduled for Sunday, October 30, at 5 p.m. Family and friends will gather in Pontiac, at the corner of Putnam Ave. and Rundell St., where Terrell was found.
Relatives say Terrell was the mother of three boys, a breast cancer survivor and a vital member of their family.
"She was everything to all of us," said Chenita Graviette, Terrell's sister. "Her sisters, her father, her cousins, her sons. She meant everything to all of us. She's gonna be missed."
Graviette said that her sister loved life and enjoyed every day.
"She did anything for anybody. She was there for a whole lot of people."
49-year-old Dina Terrell was discovered in her vehicle Friday, October 21, around 5 a.m. Police had responded to calls about a single vehicle crash, but instead found Terrell, who had been shot in the back of the head. She was pronounced dead in the hospital soon after.
Dispatchers also received reports of a man running away from the scene. Police found the suspect's cell phone with the Lyft app still running and open to his original destination. A K9 unit was brought in to search the surrounding areas, leading law enforcement to 19-year-old Kemarrie Davion Phillips.
Terrell had picked Phillips up at a Walmart in Auburn Hills and was driving him to a location in Pontiac when he allegedly shot her.
Phillips has since been charged with open murder and will face life in prison if convicted.
