
(WWJ) — A man is in police custody after a pregnant Sterling Heights woman was stabbed to death.
Sterling Heights police were called around 3 a.m. Sunday to perform a welfare check at an apartment near 18 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue, according to multiple reports.
Responding officers found blood in the hallway and no one in the apartment.
A short time later Clinton Township police received a call regarding a man covered in blood in the area of Harper and 15 Mile, just north of I-94.
When officers showed up they found the woman, believed to be in her 30s, with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The unborn child also did not survive, according to the report from Fox 2.
Authorities have not released any information about the suspect, including an age or hometown. It was not clear if he had any connection to the victim.
A possible motive in the case is not known.
