A preliminary investigation found that an 85-year-old Caro man driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee was unable to stop at a stop sign, and slid into the path of a Chevy Equinox, MSP said.

Inside the Chevy was a couple from Akron Ohio with two small children, ages 3 and 4, in the backseat.

The 20-year-old man, 20-year-old woman — was eight months pregnant — and the kids were all taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The children were properly restrained and were not seriously hurt.

At the hospital, however, police said it was discovered that the woman had lost her baby in the crash.

The driver of the Jeep, who drove himself to the hospital, was also treated for minor injuries.

Police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.

The crash came as MSP was warning drivers to slow down, as snowfall causing slick roads poor visibilities was leading to numerous crashes around the state.
