(WWJ) Water pressure is a lot lower that usual for tens of thousands of people in Macomb County.

The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) says its investigating and trying to fix a leak in a 36-inch water transmission line that serves Chesterfield Township, Lenox Township and the City of New Haven.

The leak was discovered on Gratiot Ave. between 24 and 25 Mile Roads, and crews are evaluating how to repair the leak which is causing several homeowners to see cloudy or discolored water, and lower water pressure.

Cheryl Porter, Chief Operating Officer with Water & Field Services, said crews have lowered pressure in the line and workers are opening other connections to keep the water flowing to as many homes as possible.

"As our system ages and also we can see swings in weather, you can have an infrastructure. So, it's like a maintenance thing," said Porter told WWJ's Darrylin Horne. "So, we go in an see how to get that repaired as quickly as possible, while trying to minimize the impact that it has on customers.

Porter said GLWA anticipates this issue to continue for about 7 to 10 days. In the meantime, residents may see cloudy or discolored water, as well as lower pressure.

There are approximately 75,000 residents in the three communities- Chesterfield, Lenox townships and the city of New Haven.
