
(WWJ) - Quickly accumulating amounts of rainfall is causing flooding issues across cities in the listening area Friday evening.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for Washtenaw and Wayne County through 6:15 p.m. as heavy bands of rain started moving through the area around 4:30 p.m.
Metrologists said 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen across the two counties in southeast Michigan with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch of of rainfall still expected.
Minor flooding is either ongoing or will begin shortly in the affect areas. Impacting cities include Ann Arbor, Livonia, Taylor, Romulus, Ypsilanti, Flat Rock, Saline, Milan, Grosse Pointe, Chelsea, Dexter, Manchester, Canton, Downtown Detroit, Detroit, Dearborn, Wyandotte, Trenton, Grosse Ile and Northville.
The slow-moving line of showers could begin to affect Lenawee and Monroe Counties as it trends south. officials said.
Ponding on roadways is the major concern, the NWS warned, and could cause traffic issues.
"Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads," officials added. "Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads."
