
DETROIT (WWJ) -- Nearly five years since a young man and woman were murdered in Detroit, Crime Stoppers of Michigan is still hoping for find answers and justice for their grieving families.
Erick Perkins, Jr. and JaLisa Baxter were found shot to death in Baxter's Chevy Malibu on Sept. 9, 2017, at around 3:45 a.m., in a vacant lot near the intersection of Rhons and Moffat on the city's east side.
Perkins, 24, was in the driver's seat, Baxter, 23, was in the passenger's seat, and both had been shot execution-style in the back of the head, according to police.
Family members told reporters that Baxter and Perkins were friends from high school who had reconnected.
Baxter left behind one child, a 7-year-old son, and Perkins was father to six children.
On Tuesday, Crime Stoppers and family members again reached out to the public for tips in the case, annoying a $2,500 cash reward for information that leads to an arrest in this cold case.
A motive for this crime, meanwhile, remains unknown.
Family members told reporters that they didn't know who would want to kill their loved ones or why, and police did not offer a description of any suspects in the case.
