ROYAL OAK (WWJ) -- In an alarming case of road rage, a driver allegedly pointed a gun at another motorist on Sunday evening as the pair traveled along I-75 in Oakland County.

State troopers were dispatched to the southbound I-75 service drive near Orchard Ave in Royal Oak just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

They spoke with the 911 caller, who told police he was travelling on southbound I-75, driving 60 miles per hour in the middle lane. Near 14 Mile, the man said an older white Dodge Charger or Avenger engaged him in what was considered road rage behavior, including "brake checking" him.

Continuing south on I-75, the two went back and forth until the Dodge was next to the caller's vehicle.

The man alleges that the driver of the Dodge rolled down the car's window and pointed what he believed to be a gun. According to the caller, he heard a "pop" as he drove away.

MSP said the man did not get a license plate number and that his vehicle showed no signs of damage.

"It's important to remember that it is only driving," MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said in a Tweet about the investigation. "It's not worth engaging in behavior that could risk other people's lives."

This is the second road rage incident reported in the past few days.
