(WWJ) — A Roseville man has been charged for a Macomb County bar fight last weekend that left a man hospitalized.
Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido on Tuesday announced that 48-year-old Joel Anthony Martinez was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of aggravated assault, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
The charges stem from a fight on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Te Roma Bar in Center Line, on Van Dyke near 10 Mile Road.
That night, according to the prosecutor’s office, Martinez was “bothering patrons” at the bar. He allegedly punched a 50-year-old man, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on the concrete.
The victim remained hospitalized Tuesday in the ICU, according to the prosecutor’s office. He also allegedly punched a second man.
Authorities have not released any other circumstances surrounding the incident, including what happened leading up to the alleged punches.
Bond was set at $5,000 cash/surety. Upon release, Martinez would be ordered to have no contact with the victims or any witnesses. He would also not be allowed to go to Te Roma Bar or have any contact with the bar.
Martinez would also be ordered to wear an alcohol tether.
“The defendant's actions during this alleged bar fight were reckless and dangerous, leaving the victim with significant harm. We are committed to holding the defendant accountable for this alleged violent behavior and ensuring justice is served for the victim,” Lucido said, per a press release.
His next court date has not yet been scheduled.
