MT. CLEMENS (WWJ) – A Roseville man could spend the rest of his life behind bars after he was found guilty of killing his ex-fiance's mother and uncle.

After a five-day trial in Macomb County, 32-year-old Jerel McCrary was found guilty Tuesday of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of felony firearm.

Prosecutors argued McCrary sent a text to his ex on Friday, March 25, 2022 threatening to kill everyone she knows.

He then went to her mother's home near Toepfer and Gratiot in Eastpointe and video-called his ex, before shooting her mom, Cedic Fields, and uncle, Kenny Burks while on the call.

McCrary will be sentenced on May 23. The charge of first-degree murder carries a punishment of life without parole.

Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido called the murder an "unspeakable act of violence" and a "total disregard for human lives."

"This can only be described as the actions of a coward. I am thankful to the Eastpointe Police Department for their thorough investigation and the Macomb County jury for coming back with a guilty verdict," Lucido said, per a press release.

McCrary and his father were arrested the day after the murders near Bowling Green, Ohio. His father was arrested for being an accessory after the fact.
