(WWJ) -- In an effort to keep prescription drugs out of the hands of teens, Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Kroger Health, Cardinal Health Foundation and DisposeRx are among pharmacies across the state and country taking place in the event.

Back in August, a study funded by the National Institutes of Health found that prescription medication misuse increased among 10- to 14-year-olds in the first six months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the majority of people who misuse prescription drugs get them from a friend or family member, oftentimes from medicine cabinets in their own homes.
“Cardinal Health is committed to fighting prescription medication misuse,” said Jessie Cannon, Vice President of Community Relations at Cardinal Health, per a press release. “Properly disposing of unused prescription medications is one of the easiest ways all of us can help prevent misuse.”
There will be seven take-back locations at Michigan Krogers on Saturday, including five in southeast Michigan:
