UTICA (WWJ) -- Emergency crews responded to the scene of a school bus crash in Macomb County, Friday afternoon.

Tipsters calling the WWJ Traffic Center reported the bus rolled over along southbound M-53, the Van Dyke Freeway, near M-59. This is in the Utica/Shelby Twp. area.

According to a spokesperson for the Utica Community Schools district, there were no children on the bus at the time of the crash. Only the driver was on board.

Photos shared to social media show the bus ended up right-side up in a ditch off the shoulder of M-53, with clear damage to the roof of the bus.

UCS said the bus was returning to the Auxiliary Services Facility after concluding their summer school drop offs.

It's unclear what led to the crash.

Reports said the bus driver was taken by EMS to a hospital in stable condition, but that was not immediately confirmed by police.

The district said, in a statement: "The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority for Utica Community Schools. As this matter involves the privacy of a staff member and an active district investigation in partnership with local law enforcement, UCS will not comment further at this time."

The right lane of M-53 was blocked at the scene, shortly before Exit 17, but all lanes are now back open.
