(WWJ) Michigan State Police have called of the search for an armed and dangerous kidnapper after investigators determined the alleged victim lied about what happened.
Last Friday afternoon, MSP said a young woman called 911 to report she was kidnapped at gunpoint in the Lansing area, sexually assaulted, and taken against her will to Otsego County in Northern Michigan.
The woman told police she managed to escape her captor while in Elmira several hours later, and that her kidnapper — whom she described as skinny Black male wearing a red hoodie — ran off on foot.
On Wednesday, MSP issued an update on the case saying it has been determined that this crime did not occur, adding that the public is in no danger, and that police are no longer looking for a suspect at large.
However, police said the investigation continues into the alleged attack; and what, if anything, did actually happen.
It's not clear at this time if the woman may face charged for reporting false information to police.
