DETROIT (WWJ) — A security guard is in custody after an alleged road rage incident on I-94 in Detroit Tuesday.
Michigan State Police got a call Tuesday from a driver who said someone flashed a gun at them on the freeway.
Investigators say the incident unfolded as both drivers were trying to merge onto westbound I-94 from Chalmers Avenue on the city's east side.
Eventually, the suspect pulled alongside the victim and brandished a handgun before speeding off, according to MSP.
The victims were able to record the suspect's license plate and told police the car belonged to a private security company. The suspect was also wearing a security guard's uniform, according to the victims.
Troopers contacted the owner of the security company, who cooperated with investigators. Authorities did not release the name of the security company.
Troopers eventually arrested the suspect, a 22-year-old Detroit man, and seized two handguns.
"Driving is not a competition. There is absolutely no reason to turn a minor traffic incident into a felony. It is just driving, so just be nice to your fellow drivers and we will all be better for it," MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said via X, formerly Twitter.
The suspect, whose name was not released, remains held at the Detroit Detention Center, pending prosecutor review.
