(WWJ) – More severe weather could be on its way to Metro Detroit this week after the area was hit by heavy rain and high winds over the weekend.
An EF-0 tornado with winds up to 80 mph touched down in Monroe County's Dundee late Saturday morning, leaving behind damage to buildings, cars and trees in the downtown area.
The rest of Southeast Michigan saw heavy rain, some flooding and winds approaching 60 mph.
As temperatures dropped below freezing overnight, some area freeways experienced icy conditions Sunday morning, leading to multiple crashes.
While temperatures warmed and skies cleared for some Sunday afternoon sunshine, AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Thompson tells WWJ more severe weather isn't far off.
Monday will see temperatures climb into the 60s, with a chance of late-night rain, according to Thompson. Rain showers are expected on Tuesday, with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms.
But Metro Detroit is in for a "very windy, warmer Wednesday," Thompson says, with periods of rain and thunderstorms as high temperatures approach the 70s.
"Storms could be severe, capable of producing hail, damaging winds and even an isolated tornado," he said, noting Metro Detroiters should stay tuned for updates on the impending storms.
Temps are expected to cool off a bit heading into the weekend, according to Thompson.
